How would one do a "complete fresh reinstall" by this method? Or will we be able to burn to a disc/USB key?
I would hope that creating a bootable DVD/flash drive would be part of the installation process.
How is it handled now for developers with the Lion preview?

I don't think it is a bad idea for Apple to put Merom in the MacBooks for this reason...
Apple is being more directly compared to Dell and such these days since they are running Intel chips. And the PC makers are going to put those processors in their computers as soon as they can. If Apple doesn't want to look like they are behind in the times, they have to put these processors in also.
It makes for a little smaller of a gap between the consumer and pro (remember there is still the video card holding steady) but I think overall it will be better because we will get the updates sooner rather than later...
In all reality however, I don't actually know.
Carry on...

So disappointed in how mac rumors is turning out. There is just good stuff about apple. Nothing about the 7% down in stock the last 16 days.
Bah. Macrumors have gotten so terrible and flooded with people with anger problems and not enough mods to filter stuff.

Wow. A platform that is available on all four major carriers and has dozens of phones, passed the iPhone (which *just* became available on its second carrier) in overall usage. So I guess Google should be patting themselves on the back for this historic achievement.
Are you mad?

Can someone confirm if this preview can be installed on MBP 2011?
Thanks
Installed fine on mine.

This thread is hilarious. This isn't apple shaking it's fist against jailbreakers, it's about apple wanting to protect it's advertising model that they get profit from. Keep getting mad at "the man" though if it makes you feel better.

Wow, this has to be bs. I cannot believe Apple won't introduce any hardware in WWDC '11.
They're planning on stretching the iPhone 4? Good job Apple, don't complain about losing customers now. If Apple releases the next iPhone after 2 years, then they are officially going to lose whatever market share they had.
I'm still going to wait for another announcement because every report said that there would be an iPhone 5 this summer, it makes no sense.
So in your world a 'real refresh' is when the externals change? Don't judge a book by it's cover, the 3GS was a massive upgrade.
The iPhone 4 got massive external and internal changes while the 3Gs just got internal changes. iPhone 4 is a bigger refresh than the 3Gs. I never said the 3Gs was not a real refresh I said it was not as big as the iPhone 4.

Interesting that Samsung Group is a much larger corporation to Apple, but only have $4.5 billion in cash reserves. While Apple has $50 billion and counting.

that's curious ... it's an 'application' problem?? i would have thought it was a typical bluetooth h/w issue ... wonder if the other navigation apps have similar issue w/ TomTom car kit?

Mac'nCheese: I think that in elementary school you first learn to multiply and then to divide. So first you multiply and then you divide.
That left to right rule is not following the order of the letters.
So for this case it is not PEMDAS but PEDMAS...
The Arabs give us the numbers that we use nowadays, and they do write from right to left.
So your math teacher is telling us that Mac OS X is giving us a wrong answer...You might need to watch waiting for Superman.
Sorry but you are wrong. That's exactly what they teach us. You do not first multiply and then divide. I already pointed out why calculators do pemdas wrong, u can google it or look at the link below. Funny line about superman but your wit does not make you correct. A simple google search on how to do math will teach you the correct way.

No. Processors Are Soldered In MacBooks and MacBook Pros So No Upgrades Are Possible.
The way you do the upgrade is by selling your current model and buying the next one. It's called rolling over your Mac for the next one. Some of us here have done it numerous times. It's not hard to get a good price for your used Mac. By doing this at the beginning of every update, it only cost you a few hundred dollars to move up each time.
Would it be worth it rolling over my 17 in macbook pro, w/ a 2.16 core duo to a macbook pro w/ merom chip and other new attributes. Would there be a significant difference in speed , ect. that would make it worth it. , and if so, what would i do about my registered applecare protection plan?

I think the iphone 5 will be a minor upgrade. If you are fine with the processor in iphone 4 and in the middle of a contact, then its probably better to wait for iphone 6.

I can't get to excited about this, it will take me 10 hours to download 2GB
So you're not the target customer. Even that isn't really that big a deal, you can always just pick out your movie at breakfast and have it waiting when you get home from work.
Plus the Mid-Tower Conroe Mac I think.
So why isn't this an option in the poll? I think it's certainly possible.

Yet another sign Apple is going to kill the Mac Pro.
You'll see! With Final Cut Pro on it's deathbed there is no way the Mac Pro is sticking around!
/s
I think quite the opposite. I think It will increase the market.

Not likely.
In the "old days" (i.e. pre-Intel) Apple could do this, keep selling outdated technology to clear out inventory before updating processors, graphics cards/chips, etc.
They had no other choice g3 or g4.
But now that they're competing head-to-head with PC technology, this won't EVER happen. It was not accidental that Yonah debuted on MBP's before Dell, HP and Sony started selling them. No, Apple will have them out of the chute as soon as anyone else does (Intel probably won't give Apple first dibs this time - that was probably a Yonah bribe to get Apple to commit to Intel), which means there's no way we'll be waiting until Christmas (unless some production snafu makes EVERYONE wait that long.)
Announcement in August, shipping in September maybe?
iBorg
September maybe is not to far from November!
Someone had to take a pragmatic position. Might as well be me.
Ok. Merom is going to happen for MBP September (maybe), October and Novermber (probably) December (maybe).
However, it has always been my conviction that not even Apple knows these exact dates. If sales are strong they put off updates, if they are slack they roll out new stuff.
This time Intel jumped the gun so Apple may take longer to respond.

When can we expect the new updated imacs to ship with Mac OS X Lion pre-installed? would you say June or July?

Actually, you don't even need a firmware change, people have already done the swap and it works fine. Conroe does make sense in an iMac just because it's cheaper. And future chips will use the Conroe socket so they're going to need to update the design eventually anyway.
Cheaper per chip price. Factor in all the design changes that would have to be made, and it might not be in the long run.
